About Rosenberg Van Mullem

It is no coincidence that Johnny and Mozes Rosenberg formed the Group ‘Rosenberg van Mullem’ together with Sani van Mullem. The most talented young generation from the Rosenberg-family joined their forces and bring you modern jazz, but also jazz standards and the traditional repertoire of Django Reinhardt. New and fresh is the vocal contribution of the rhythm guitarist and singer Johnny Rosenberg, when he brings you songs from the Great American Songbook. That they are eager and well up to the task proves their debut album ‘Obsession’, released March 2010.

Like many Sinti musicians, they are self taught and come from a ‘oral transmission culture’. The master lead guitarist from the trio, Mozes Rosenberg, was born into the famous Rosenberg family and brother of Stochelo. At a young age he met Paco de Lucia and took a master class of Joe Zawinul. He is a very demanded guest musician and played many concerts alongside of his brother Stochelo in the Rosenberg Trio.
Johnny Rosenberg is the rhythm guitarist and singer of the trio. Like his fellow musicians he also began playing the guitar at an early age and toured with Jimmy Rosenberg in the Gipsy Kids and Sinti throughout Europe and The United States. They also were supporting act for James Brown and Mariah Carrey. Johnny competed in 2005 with his 'Trio Johnny Rosenberg' in the National Songcontest and reach the finals to conquer a 3rd place with a self composed latin-popsong. With this trio, Johnny performed on all the major festivals, both national and international.
The second half of the rhythm section is double bass player Sani van Mullem. Also Sani made his first footprints in music at an early age while playing in Gipsy Kids and later for many many years he toured with his trio The Gipsy Boys.
His playing is  phenomenal and he showed his skills already on the cd ‘Ready ‘n Able’ album, which he recorded with Mozes and Stochelo Rosenberg, before extensively touring throughout France.

In 2009 Johnny and Mozes started, together with bassplayer Barthia Egtberts with more modern jazz and the acoustic guitar got more often traded in for a jazz guitar. This doesn’t mean that they said goodbye to Gipsy Jazz, they just wanted to explore different kinds of jazz and now combine gipsy-swing, with modern jazz and croonersongs. They played several times at the Edison Jazz Awards, and their last theater tour they played together with master pianist Rob van Bavel. In 2010 the last change was made, bassguitarist Barthia started taking care of management and PR and Sani joined the band to form 'Rosenberg Van Mullem'. They recently toured with Dutch Diva Joke Bruis and Vibraphone player Frits Landesbergen in theatres throughout The Netherlands to promote the together recorded and released cd ‘On the Road’.
